How does the remote control work?

During normal operation, the camera is in power-saving mode and does not receive commands immediately. All sent commands are therefore first stored in a queue.

As soon as the camera reconnects to the Modernhunter server, these commands are automatically retrieved and executed.

A connection between the camera and the server is established in the following cases:

When the camera sends a photo

When the camera is restarted

When the communication interval defined in the settings is reached

Online time Once the camera has established a connection, it remains online for about 5 minutes. During this time, it can receive and execute further commands immediately before switching back to power-saving mode.

What is the communication interval?

The communication interval determines how often your camera automatically connects to your Modernhunter account. This forced contact is important when no photos are being sent, but the camera still needs to receive commands or setting changes.

The camera connects to the server in three cases:

When the camera is restarted

When the camera sends a photo

After the set communication interval has expired

During each connection, the camera transmits its current status (e.g., battery level, signal strength, storage) and retrieves any pending commands from your account.

Notes on configuration

The shorter the communication interval, the more frequently the camera connects to your account — and the higher the power consumption.

By default, the camera is set to a 24-hour interval. In “real-time” mode, the camera remains constantly connected to the server, allowing it to receive and execute commands instantly.

⚠ Important: The “real-time” interval should only be used when the camera is connected to an external power source. When running on batteries, they would otherwise be depleted within just a few days.

What do “Working Time 1” and “Working Time 2” mean?

In the camera settings of the Hunter 4G Mini, you can define two working periods: Working Time 1 and Working Time 2.

For each working time, you can set an individual start time and stop time. This allows you to determine exactly when the camera is active — meaning when it takes and sends photos — and when it should pause.

For example, you can:

have the camera operate only at night and not during the day, or

have the camera active only at specific times (e.g., in the morning and evening).

With these two options, you can define two active time windows per day.

My camera is not sending

Accepted Answer

ENOUGH CREDIT AVAILABLE? Cameras can only connect to the internet and send data if the SIM card still has sufficient credit.

Tip: Please check the available balance with your SIM card provider.

SEND FUNCTION ACTIVE? On some cameras, the send function or the SIM card itself can be deactivated. Please make sure that the send function is enabled in the camera menu and that the SIM card is active.

RECORDINGS ON THE MEMORY CARD? If no recordings can be saved due to an SD card issue, nothing can be sent as a result.

Tip: Format the SD card on a PC or replace it and test again.

Question 9

The camera triggers even though no movement is visible

Accepted Answer

The camera takes a photo when the PIR sensor (motion sensor) detects a moving heat source. However, if you receive an image where no visible movement can be seen, there may be several reasons for this:

🔍 Common causes:

🌿 Moving, heated branches or leaves: Branches or bushes warmed by the sun and moving in the wind are detected as heat sources.

🐭 Small animals in grass or leaves: Mice or other small animals are often barely visible in the photos.

🕊 Flying birds or bats: They may have already left the detection area before the photo was taken.

🌞 Combination of sun and wind: This is the most common cause of unintended triggers.

💧 Mounting above water surfaces: Reflections and temperature differences can confuse the sensor.

🛠 How to avoid this:

Reposition the camera, e.g. in the shade or in an area with less foreground movement.

Reduce the motion sensor sensitivity in the camera settings. → On the Hunter 4G Mini, this can be adjusted directly in the app.

Which batteries are best for operating my trail camera?

☀ Summer operation (above 10 °C)

At mild temperatures, high-quality alkaline batteries are perfectly sufficient. Ideal are models specifically designed for digital cameras, as they offer:

long service life, and

short-term high performance, e.g. when triggering at night or transmitting images.

❄ Winter operation (below 10 °C)

In cold conditions, the performance of alkaline batteries drops by around 40%. For winter use, we therefore recommend lithium batteries or connecting an external lead-acid battery.

⚠ Note on rechargeable batteries

Rechargeable AA/Mignon batteries are only partially suitable, as they usually supply 1.2 V instead of 1.5 V. This can reduce operating time. However, their use is safe as long as the batteries do not produce voltage spikes above 1.8 V.

Step 1: Add camera Open the Cameras page in the app menu. Tap the “+” icon in the top right corner. Select Standard Camera.

Step 2: Select camera model Choose Seissiger as the manufacturer. Select Seissiger Universal as the model. Confirm with “Next”.

Step 3: Set name and location Enter a camera name and the location name where the camera is installed. Then tap “Next”.

Step 4: Skip SIM card step Since your camera uses a Supersim card, you do not need to add a Modernhunter SIM. → You can simply skip this step.

Step 5: Complete setup Confirm all details. ➡ The camera will now be created in the system.

Step 6: Enter forwarding email address Modernhunter automatically generates an individual email address for your camera. Copy this email address. Enter it in your Supersim account as the forwarding address.

✅ Done! From now on, your Seissiger camera will automatically send its recordings via Supersim to Modernhunter. The images will then appear directly in your Modernhunter account.

Follow these steps to set up your camera for use with the Modernhunter SIM card:

Complete the setup until an individual email address is displayed. This email address is the recipient address to which your camera will send its photos. 👉 Copy or note this address.

📂 Step 3: Load sample configuration file Click “Load…” at the bottom left and load the file “Seissiger_Modernhunter_Config.CFG” in the program.

✉ Enter the Modernhunter email address In the Recipients section, enter the email address generated in Step 1 into the field Email 1.

📸 Step 5: Load settings into the camera Insert the SD card into your SEISSIGER Special-Cam (standard version). Switch the camera to SETUP. Open the menu → 2G or LTE → Setup from SD and confirm the process. The camera will automatically load the saved settings.

✅ Done! Your SEISSIGER standard version is now connected to your Modernhunter account. From now on, it will automatically send all recordings via the Modernhunter SIM card to the generated recipient email address — the images will appear directly in your Modernhunter account.

Zeiss Secacam trail camera

With this guide, you can set up your Zeiss Secacam app so that recordings automatically appear in your Modernhunter account.

Step 1: Add the camera in Modernhunter Open the Modernhunter app and go to Cameras, then tap the “+” in the top right. Select Standard Camera. Choose Secacam as the manufacturer and select any Secacam model. Tap “Next”. Assign a camera name and enter the location where the camera is installed. Skip the SIM step (Zeiss cameras use their own SIM). Confirm everything — the camera will now be created in Modernhunter. ➡ At the end, Modernhunter will give you an individual camera code, e.g., mh-123abc. You’ll need this later.

Step 2: Forward recordings in the Zeiss Secacam app Since Zeiss no longer allows forwarding to our Modernhunter address, you will now use your own email address for forwarding. Open the Zeiss Secacam app. Go to Cameras and select the camera you want to connect. Tap the gear icon in the top right, then Notifications. Make sure Email notifications = ON and tap Save at the bottom. ➡ Zeiss will now send all new recordings to your email address. You can see which address this is in the app at the bottom right under Menu — your email is shown at the top.

Step 3: Set up automatic forwarding & sorting To ensure recordings arrive at Modernhunter automatically and your inbox stays organized, create a rule: Open your email program (Outlook, Thunderbird, Gmail/webmail). Create a rule/filter/forwarding for incoming emails.

Condition:

move to folder: “Secacam”

💡 Tip: If the “Secacam” folder doesn’t exist yet, create it first.

✅ Result: All Zeiss photos are automatically forwarded to Modernhunter and simultaneously filed in the “Secacam” folder in your mailbox.

Step 4: Adjust the camera name in Zeiss So Modernhunter knows which camera the photos come from: Open the camera in the Zeiss Secacam app, then tap the gear in the top right. Change the camera name to the individual code from Step 1, e.g., mh-123abc. Important: Enter the code exactly as shown in Modernhunter (no spaces/typos).

🎉 Done! Your Zeiss Secacam is now connected to Modernhunter. The camera sends its recordings to your email address; your mailbox automatically forwards them to Modernhunter and, in parallel, sorts the emails into the “Secacam” folder. This way, the recordings appear in your Modernhunter account as usual.

Modernhunter will then generate a code for you. This code will look like “mh-xxxxxx”, where xxxxxx represents your individual 6-character code.

Step 2: Set up email forwarding Open the ICU app and tap your profile photo in the top right. Select Email forwarding and then tap + Add email address. Enter the following address exactly as shown: icu@mh-cam.de

From that moment on, all recordings from your ICU account (from all cameras) will be automatically forwarded to Modernhunter.

Step 3: Adjust the camera name To ensure that the recordings are correctly assigned to the corresponding ICU camera in Modernhunter, you need to change the camera name in the ICU app. In the ICU app menu, go to Cameras, select the camera you want to link, and tap the pencil icon next to the current camera name. Change the camera name to the individual code generated in Step 1: “mh-xxxxxx”. Important: The name must contain the code exactly as shown in the Modernhunter app (no spaces or typos).

✅ Done! Your ICU camera is now connected to Modernhunter. From now on, all recordings will be automatically forwarded to Modernhunter and will appear directly in your account.

🔗 Connect contacts

Before you can share camera locations and their recordings with other users, you first need to connect your account with your friend’s account. Here’s how:

Open the Modernhunter app → Menu → Contacts.

Option A: Tell your friend the code shown at the top of your contacts page. Your friend enters this code using the keyboard icon (1) in the top right corner.

Option B: Show your friend the QR code from your contacts page (Show QR Code), and they scan it using the camera icon (2) in the top right corner.

Your friend will receive a contact request and confirm it. → You are now connected and can share camera locations with each other.

📍 Share location

Open Menu → Locations. Select the desired location and tap the gear icon (⚙) to open the location settings. At the bottom, you can select which contacts should have access to this location.

🔒 Closed lock: View-only access (can see recordings).

The cost of sending a photo depends on the file size. Files are billed in 300 KB increments:

Up to 300 KB → 1 Coin (= approx. €0.008)

With the Hunter 4G Mini camera, photos in the following sizes are usually under 300 KB and therefore cost only 1 Coin (approx. €0.008):

Photos in full size (3,072x1,728) are typically larger than 300 KB and therefore cost more than 1 Coin per image.

How much does a video cost?

The cost of sending a video depends on the file size. Files are billed in 300 KB increments:

Up to 300 KB → 1 Coin (= approx. €0.008)

Up to 600 KB → 2 Coins (= approx. €0.016)

and so on.

The size of a video can vary greatly and depends on several factors:

Video length – the longer the video, the larger the file.

Resolution – higher image quality (e.g., 1080p instead of 720p) creates larger files.

Frame rate (FPS) – more frames per second = smoother but larger video. Hunter 4G Mini: Videos from the Hunter 4G Mini are sent as preview files with a reduced 15 FPS to keep the file size small. Original videos stored on the SD card have 30 FPS and are therefore much larger.

Compression & format – modern formats (e.g., MP4 with H.264) are smaller than older ones. Hunter 4G Mini: We use the new H.265 compression method, which makes files significantly smaller for transmission than conventional methods — aiming for the smallest possible file size with maximum video quality.

Motion in the scene – lots of movement or changing scenes increase file size.

Color vs. black and white – night recordings are usually smaller than daytime videos with many colors.

Example: A short 5-second video with low resolution may remain under 300 KB (1 Coin), while a longer or higher-resolution video may reach 600 KB or more (2 Coins or higher).

Do I need to top up credit separately for each SIM card?

Accepted Answer

No, you only need to top up credit once per account. The credit is stored centrally in your user account and can be shared by all cameras using a Modernhunter SIM card.

This means:

It doesn’t matter which camera uses the credit or if one camera sends more than another.

Credit is only deducted when a recording is actually sent.

If no recordings are sent, no costs are incurred — there is no monthly base fee and no subscription.

As long as there is credit in your account, all your Modernhunter cameras can continue transmitting recordings.

No connection to the mobile network?

Possible cause: oxidized SIM card

If your wireless trail camera suddenly can’t connect to the mobile network, this may be due to an oxidized SIM card.

🔍 Why does this happen? With frequent use in humid weather or after a long period of operation, an invisible oxide layer can form on the contact surfaces of the SIM card. This prevents the camera from correctly detecting the SIM card.

How to fix the issue:

Remove the SIM card

Gently rub the contact surface (the gold chip) with a dry, lint-free cloth using light pressure

Reinsert the SIM card

After that, your camera should reconnect to the mobile network without issues.

💡 Tip: Repeat this process every time you change the batteries — it’s a simple way to reliably prevent connection problems.

Yes, with Modernhunter this is easily possible. As soon as a camera sends a photo, the SIM card used is automatically assigned to that camera.

If a SIM card becomes defective or needs to be replaced, you can simply use a new Modernhunter SIM card. Add it in the app under Menu → SIM cards. Tap the “+” icon in the top right corner and scan the barcode on the Modernhunter SIM card. This will add the SIM card to your account and automatically activate it.
